An Important Note About Contributions

Receipts are issued only once per year during tax season in February for ALL donations made during the tax year ending the immediately preceding December.

Form for Reporting In-Kind Donations to Temple Shalom

An example of an in-kind donation are the expenses for hosting an Oneg Shabbat. Please download the form at After you have filled it out and attached to it the receipts for the expenses incurred in the donation, please return the form and the attached receipts to the treasurer by scan-and-e-mail to or by mailing it to the Temple at the address given in the form’s letterhead.

Financial Year

The financial year for Temple Shalom is September 1 through August 31.

Dues Payable

Membership dues are payable on September 30th of each year.

Religious School Tuition Payable

Tuition for religious school is payable on September 30th of each year.

Reduction in Dues/Fees

The Secretary and Treasurer are empowered to make adjustments to membership dues and tuition fees. They can make decisions without board approval when they feel confident making such decisions. Tuition should be paid in full if at all possible.

Trading Salary for Dues

Employees who are members of the Temple will not be allowed to forgo salary in exchange for lower Temple dues or Religious School fees.

Mandatory Deductions

The Temple will withhold mandatory deductions from all employees for whom this is required and will remit such deductions on time.

Signing Authority

Cheques may be signed by any two of: the past president, the president, the treasurer, and the secretary.

Suggested Honouraria for Lay-Led Services

Suggested honoraria, payable directly to lay leaders are as follows:

  • Yahrzeit — $50
  • Baby naming, Aufruf, Unveiling, Memorial — $150
  • Wedding, Funeral — $250
  • Leading Bar/Bat Mitzvah Service — $400
  • Musically Accompanying in Bar/Bat Mitzvah Service — $250

All the above are to be paid by the member requesting the service directly to the performer of the service.

Support for Adopt-A-Granny

The Temple has agreed to accept cheques for the Adopt-a-Granny Program and to support the project in any non-monetary form.

Fundraising for the Religious School

Fundraising proposals to support the Religious School must be brought to the board of directors for prior approval.
